GLENDORA, Calif., June 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Employees of OASIS® Medical Inc., manufacturer and distributor of high quality disposable surgical instruments and ocular lubricating and lid cleansing solutions, feel the ringing impact of appreciation for the work of a non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for vision impaired children after their participation in the Destination-Independence 5K Walk put on by Blind Children's Learning Center in Santa Ana, CA.

"Twelve years ago, I worked with parents to create the Destination-Independence 5K Walk in efforts to show our gratitude to Blind Children's Learning Center for giving our children what we couldn't; education geared to their different needs, encouragement to persevere, and the confidence to succeed. Over the years our walkers and corporate supporters have raised nearly $1 million that has provided early intervention and specialized education for hundreds of children with visual impairments. We are proud to have OASIS® Medical join us this year and deeply grateful for their generous support," said Jaimie Haver, Destination-Independence 5K Walk Founder.

Destination-Independence brought together a large community to walk a 5K route. Boothes lined the communal area filled with teams of walkers some adorned in tutus and others in their Destination-Independence t-shirts. After a warm-up of Zumba, the opening of the walk was lead by horse and rider through the balloon arches and onto the street. The crowd cheering drowned the sound of grinding foot steps, the pitter-padder of little feet, strollers, wheel chairs and tapping canes.

"I am grateful we were given the opportunity to participate in this event, to be able to allow for our children to be included, and learn more about the Blind Children's Learning Center and all that they do," said Craig Delgado, President, OASIS Medical Inc.

The walk came to an end with families returning through the balloon arch only this time each person receiving a medallion for pariticipation. A rockwall, a petting zoo, and food stands served as post-walk entertainment and dining. Endless smiles and group photos hold the memory of the walk for OASIS Employees.

"It was an experience that swelled my heart for days," said Denise Starbird, OASIS Employee. "My son's face lit up with awe over being a part of this massive group of unifying individuals experiencing something bigger than ourselves."

"It was a physical and spiritual journey, filled with bravery, hope, and love," said Cici Zhang, OASIS Employee.

"It was encouraging to see so many people come together for such a noble and worthy cause. I look forward to the OASIS team continuing to participate and give back to the vision community," said Maria Lacayo-Zuniga, OASIS Employee.

The event generated over $100,000 and may continue to grow with donations that are accepted through June 30, 2016. The impact resonated throughout the week and still today. About Blind Children's Learning CenterBlind Children's Learning Center, a non-profit agency, provides services for children with visual impairments. Founded in 1962 by six adults who were blind, the organization was originally called "Services for the Blind Orange County." The founders quickly discovered the key to helping a person with visual impairments was to start working with them at a very early age. Today the agency serves children and their families through a Global Infant Development Program, Bright Visions Early Childhood Center (onsite preschool) and Youth Outreach with the mission to prepare children with visual impairments for a life of independence through early intervention, education and family support.
