ADULT CRAFT: Join the library for an all natural woolen ball diffuser workshop. Participants will create adorable diffusers for home or car out of felt wool balls. The diffusers are finished with a decorative clothespin and a cute tassel and then infused with essential oils of choice. All materials will be provided. The workshop will be held Monday, March 13, 2023, at 6:00 p.m at the Main Library and March 27, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. at the Lansingburgh Branch. This in-person event is free and open to the public. ALBANY COUNTY AIRPORT AUTHORITY MEETING: The Albany County Airport Authority will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Conference Room on the 3rd Floor located in the Main Terminal at the Albany International Airport in Albany.

HISTORY LECTURE: The Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center’s final lecture of its annual Winter Lecture Series will be held at the museum on March 14th at 7pm. We hope you will join us for a presentation by military historian Eric Schnitzer titled, “Brave and Gallant” African-American Military Men at the Battle of Saratoga at the Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center at 2 Museum Lane, Waterford. Admission is $10 a person and may be paid at the door. Reservations recommended. Seating is limited for this program. LOCAL MAGICIANS MEETING: The local group of The Society of American Magicians, Assembly #24, meets regularly at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at the S. W. Pitts Hose Co. of Latham, 226 Old Loudon Road, Latham. We welcome all persons, age 16 and older, with any interest in the art of magic whether it be: performance, history, collecting or purely entertainment to join us for a fun evening. COMMUNITY MEAL: YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., located at 21 First St. in Troy, serves a weekly community meal from 5 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday. It is a free-of-charge, to-go dinner provided for YWCA residents as well as anyone in the community. All are welcome to join us each week for a free, nutritious cooked meal. Meals are prepared by a variety of volunteers including but not limited to YWCA-GCR staff, residents, community members and students. Residents are encouraged to participate in preparation of the meals and will be assisted by staff in menu planning, shopping and time management. We serve an average of 75 people per week. The YWCA-GCR also partners with community organizations to set up booths at weekly Community Meal to advertise, promote and engage guests in services. Lunchtime and evening meditation will be held at 11:30am – 1:30pm and 7-8pm. Prayers stations including guided prayer mediation, sand labyrinth, art supplies, Taize music, and a special Kid Zone with intergenerational activities from Illustrated Ministries will be available. TRADES & CAREER FAIR: Tamarac High School is hosting a Trades and Career Fair on Thursday, March 16th. The event will showcase over 30 local unions, businesses and trade schools. Students will have the opportunity to speak with companies hiring right out of high school and learn about opportunities to be successful if they choose not to go to college. Local schools have been invited to bring students to participate as well. The Trades and Career Fair will be in the multipurpose gym from 10:30 am-2:30pm.

SIDEWALK WARRIORS: Each Thursday evening in the parking lot at 27-28 State St. in downtown Troy, dozens of volunteers set up a large number of tables for Sidewalk Warriors’ weekly distribution. At these tables, visitors can find hot foods, sandwiches, produce, pantry items and essentials. The group often provides special distributions such as towels, linens, pillows, winter boots, underwear, socks or laundry detergent. The folks who attend the distribution may be experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, or they may simply be running short on resources at the end of the month. Set up for the weekly Sidewalk Warriors distribution events begins at 5 p.m. each Thursday, and volunteers begin serving at 6 p.m., no matter what the weather. KNIT & CROCHET GROUP: Join the Troy Public Library for a bi-weekly stitching group from 10 to 11 a.m. on every first and third Friday of the month. Whether you have experience knitting or crocheting or you want to start learning a new skill, this group is for you! Participants will work together to stitch blankets and other needed items to donate to local homeless shelters and outreach groups. Participants are also welcome to work on their own personal projects. Bring your own knitting needles and crochet hooks or use what we have available. YOUTH CHORALE CONCERT: The Capital District Youth Chorale (CDYC) will present their “Almost Spring, Invitational Concert” on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 3pm at Union College’s Memorial Chapel in Schenectady. In addition to CDYC, the Farnsworth Middle School Select Chorus, Tamarac Elementary Select Chorus, and the Treble Chorus from Shenendehowa Middle Schools will perform. The concert will also feature alumnae performances from Angelo Michael Mazzone and Laura Isabella, who continued their music studies in college (and beyond). They now perform professionally in the U.S. and Abroad. Admission is $15 for adults and senior citizens and $5 for students (cash or check only at the door). POETRY WORKSHOP: Join the library for a two-week weekend poetry workshop “The Creative Fire of Folklore” with published poet Susan Comninos. The workshop will be held Saturday, March 25 and Saturday April 1, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Participants must commit to both sessions. Comninos will discuss and employ techniques for incorporating elements of your own community’s folklore into identity-based poems that can function as your own “origin stories.” Come prepared to try your hand at techniques for folding family sayings, stories, and more into poetry that’s at once individual and universal. Together, we’ll have fun with writing exercises and discuss published poetry. We’ll also consider how some poets come to assume the role of “inheritor” of their family or community’s legacy. LASAGNA DINNER: The Melrose United Methodist Church (located at 20 Church Street, Melrose, NY 12121) will hold a Lasagna Dinner on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Take outs start at 4:30pm. FOOD AS MEDICINE: Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces a new CulinaryArts@SPAC series titled Food as Medicine featuring culinary tastings and drinks alongside insightful conversations with experts, physicians and writers discussing how food, lifestyle and wellness practices can support longevity, help to prevent disease, and manage chronic health conditions. Kicking off the new initiative is Brain Health Kitchen with Dr. Annie Fenn in conversation with WAMC’s Joe Donahue on January 27, followed by Plants First with Dr. Katie Takayasu on March 25. The series will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Nancy DiCresce Room at The Pines at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Preceding the conversations, guests can enjoy mocktails, wine, and beer along with bites and tastings. Tickets to attend Brain Health Kitchen with Dr. Annie Fenn are $75 and include drinks (mocktails, wine and beer) and tastings along with admission to the conversation. POETRY WORKSHOP: Join the library for a two-week weekend poetry workshop “The Creative Fire of Folklore” with published poet Susan Comninos. The workshop will be held Saturday, March 25 and Saturday April 1, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Participants must commit to both sessions. Comninos will discuss and employ techniques for incorporating elements of your own community’s folklore into identity-based poems that can function as your own “origin stories.” Come prepared to try your hand at techniques for folding family sayings, stories, and more into poetry that’s at once individual and universal. Together, we’ll have fun with writing exercises and discuss published poetry. We’ll also consider how some poets come to assume the role of “inheritor” of their family or community’s legacy. FOOD DRIVE: The Pines at Glens Falls is collaborating with The Veterans & Community Housing Coalition to host our 3rd annual drive thru – food drive to assist local veterans and their families. As in the past, the event will be a “drive thru” for the community and local businesses to drop off either non-perishable items or monetary donations. The drop off time will be between 11:00 am-1:00 pm on Friday, April 21st. In addition, on the day of the event, there will be area businesses set up with information, giveaways, raffles and more.

WING FEST: The Glens Falls Collaborative will be hosting its annual Wing Fest event on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from noon to 3 p.m. in Downtown Glens Falls. The event is a competition between restaurants for the best wings. Tasting is from noon to 3 p.m. and an awards ceremony at the bandstand in City Park at 3:30 p.m. will close out the event, with multiple categories of winners. There will also be live music in Downtown Glens Falls. The 2nd annual Michael DuBray Inferno Wing Eating Competition takes place at 2 p.m. on Glen Street during Wing Fest. Competitors will pay a registration fee of $25 that will go into a Michael DuBray Scholarship Fund. The winner will receive a trophy and bragging rights. The contest honors Michael DuBray, also known as DeeJay DuBray, who helped found the event and served as its chair and champion for many years. Register at www.glensfallscollaborative.com. KNIT & CROCHET GROUP: Join the Troy Public Library for a bi-weekly stitching group from 10 to 11 a.m. on every first and third Friday of the month. Whether you have experience knitting or crocheting or you want to start learning a new skill, this group is for you! Participants will work together to stitch blankets and other needed items to donate to local homeless shelters and outreach groups. Participants are also welcome to work on their own personal projects. Bring your own knitting needles and crochet hooks or use what we have available. This in-person event is free and open to the public. No registration required. The Troy Public Library is located at 100 Second Street, Troy.

COMMUNITY MEAL: YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., located at 21 First St. in Troy, serves a weekly community meal from 5 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday. It is a free-of-charge, to-go dinner provided for YWCA residents as well as anyone in the community. All are welcome to join us each week for a free, nutritious cooked meal. Meals are prepared by a variety of volunteers including but not limited to YWCA-GCR staff, residents, community members and students. Residents are encouraged to participate in preparation of the meals and will be assisted by staff in menu planning, shopping and time management. We serve an average of 75 people per week. The YWCA-GCR also partners with community organizations to set up booths at weekly Community Meal to advertise, promote and engage guests in services. Residents and community members can call the YWCA-GCR at (518) 274-7100 to find out Tuesday’s menu. More information about this program is available online at www.ywca-gcr.org.

SIDEWALK WARRIORS: Each Thursday evening in the parking lot at 27-28 State St. in downtown Troy, dozens of volunteers set up a large number of tables for Sidewalk Warriors’ weekly distribution. At these tables, visitors can find hot foods, sandwiches, produce, pantry items and essentials. The group often provides special distributions such as towels, linens, pillows, winter boots, underwear, socks or laundry detergent. The folks who attend the distribution may be experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, or they may simply be running short on resources at the end of the month. Set up for the weekly Sidewalk Warriors distribution events begins at 5 p.m. each Thursday, and volunteers begin serving at 6 p.m., no matter what the weather. BINGO: Rensselaer Elks Lodge #2073, located at 683 Columbia Turnpike, hosts Bingo every Thursday evening and the general public is welcome to attend. Doors open at 5 PM for players age 18+. Play starts at 7 PM. $1,300 in prizes. Food and refreshments sold.

SUMMER SPACTACULAR: Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces its inaugural fundraiser to kick off the summer season, Summer SPACtacular. Slated for 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 2, the event will feature an expansive celebration across the SPAC grounds that includes live music, a multi-course “Summerscape Supper,” culinary tastings, cocktails, a whiskey and cigar lounge, fireworks and a dance party on SPAC’s historic stage. This first-time fundraiser will benefit SPAC’s mission, residencies and youth education initiatives.With two different ticketing options – a “Party Pass” and an “All-Access Pass” – attendees will have the opportunity to experience SPAC like never before.
